About St. James, Williamsford

In April of 1885, approximately twenty members severed their connections with St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sullivan Township, and began to make plans for the establishment of a Lutheran Church in Williamsford. The main reason was that these pioneers felt the need for another Lutheran Church in the area, a fervent desire to continue to spread the word and work of God in this area. Even in division, God created unity and St. Peter’s and St. James’ joined in a new way to form the Sullivan-Williamsford Lutheran Parish, as it remains today.

Before these for walls came to be, this congregation had life through Jesus Christ. On April 16th, 1885, the three trustees of the newly congregated group of believers – Henry Miller, Christian Lipskie and Frederick Krueger purchased this land for $50 and made plans for a new building that would be completed in October of the same year. We give God thanks for all those members of this church through these 125 years that have volunteered countless hours in the name of Christ that St. James’ Evangelical Lutheran church could survive and thrive for 125 years.

On Sunday, October 14th, 1885 the church building of St. James’ Lutheran Church, Williamsford was completed and dedicated. The actual congregation was established on April 16th of that same year.
